Strengthening Our Community

The Amelia Island Foundation (AIF) is a newly formed 501(c)3 nonprofit organization born out of the need to supplement the work that vital nonprofits, community partners, and private organizations are doing to reinvest in our Amelia Island community and build a sustainable travel industry.

By strengthening the assets of the community – the natural resources, a vital workforce and an enviable way of life – the Amelia Island Foundation seeks to bridge the gap between what public tax dollars and private funding can do.

The hospitality industry is an economic engine in Nassau County, accounting for $900 million in economic impact from visitors to Amelia Island resulting in over 1/3rd of County tax revenues. However, Florida law limits how tourist development tax (TDT or bed tax) revenue can be spent.

The Amelia Island Foundation (AIF) endeavors to reinvest in the community by creating a funding source to support local projects that benefit the island where TDT revenues may not be utilized. By enhancing the community assets of natural resources, a vital workforce and the unique way of life, the Amelia Island Foundation seeks to bridge the gap between what public dollars can support and what private dollars can enrich, all with an eye toward driving our hospitality industry and strengthening local community.
